We, Cambscuisine, are very excited to announce that we have acquired The Tickell Arms in Whittlesford. The Pub restaurant has a tremendous history and it is well known in the area. This is largely due to its former owner Kim Tickell who was a mighty character and landlord. He developed the food and the custom to turn it into one of Cambridgeshires finest and most destinational of eateries. It is with this legacy that we take on the ownership. It has been closed for two years and as such much needs doing to restore it to its former glory. We are replacing the old conservatory and building a kitchen block and toilet block to the rear. As you might expect we are giving the whole place a big overhaul.
Pub and restaurant entrances will be separate. It is very important to us that locals and anyone else can just pop in for a pint (3 local real ales). The restaurant will serve the sort of food that you may expect from us at The Cock, Hemingford or The Boathouse, Ely. We are not going to restrict ourselves to the solely British food that we serve at The Chop Houses. Modern European the food will be; service will be knowledgeable and friendly and the standards will be high.
The purpose of this site is to keep you informed about the development, likely opening dates and more. We will be updating this site with photos every couple of weeks. For more information on our other restaurants in the area please see www.cambscuisine.com.
We hope to see you at the revamped Tickell Arms before long.
Best Wishes,
Cambscuisine.

"Kim kept dogs and they pissed all over the mint in the back garden, he said that was why his special Punch tasted so good"
"One very hot summer, the Squire, fully clothed, jumped into the fountain pool claiming his dogs were hot and would only go in if he did!!."

Here are a handful of stories sent us about Kim Tickell...he certainly had a way with customers!
On a chilly day a customer went into the bar and whilst his pint was being pulled saw that the logs on the fire could do with rearranging to provide more heat. He wandered to the fireplace and pushed one further in with his toe. Tickell saw him and thundered ‘Don’t you dare touch my fire - fires are a very personal thing’
A gent walked in accompanied by a lady. He ordered a pint and said he would ‘ask the lady what she wanted’. Lady! exclaimed Tickell, there are no ladies in this world only girls, women and trollops!
In a time when it was less fashionable he was openly gay (and interestingly a former member of the SAS) he went to Kings May Ball in the 1950’s accompanied by a male partner.
A customer, part of a shooting party, exclaimed that the sausages he had been served where ‘bloody awful’. Tickell replied ‘Don’t you dare feed them to my dog then, he’s a pedigree you know.’
He also dealt only in round numbers – he never gave pennies in change – everything was rounded up or down.
